The Bullmastiff was developed from crossing the Old English Mastiff and the Bulldog. Originally they were bred as guard dogs to help gamekeepers apprehend and hold poachers without mauling or killing them, they basically sat on them. This is without question a very powerful dog. The short coat is hardy and weather resistant. The coat should be clean and fresh smelling and lay flat against the body. Storm was very accommodating stepping into the big purple bath through its sliding door, he then sat patiently (standing on request) through his pre bath high velocity blast to blow out loose any coat prior to bathing, he then enjoyed a herbal shampoo hydrobath and massage followed by a towel dry and warm air drying. His muzzle (slobber) and wrinkles were carefully washed and properly dried. He was a complete angel and gentleman.
